Seems there is a mismatch between the Frontpage extensions on workstations and those on our server. Microsoft is aware of the issue, but with the announcement of discontinuing Frontpage in the near future, the problem is probably never going to be resolved.

The immediate work around for this problem is for users to upload only content and not their extensions when working in Frontpage. An alternative also to download a copy of Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2007 , Visual Studio Express, Expression Web or Visual Web Developer. All these applications are geared to the hobbiest and small business. Some are betas and others are for purchase or free. Links to these products are listed below.

Microsofts Frontpage will soon be a thing of the past. Microsoft will be discontinuing frontpage this year with the release of SharePoint Designer 2007. Sharepoint Designer is build on .NET technology and after downloading a Beta version (good thru June 2007) I found it quite impressive. It has the look and feel of Visual Studio and those familiar with the Dreamweaver desktop. I found it very easy to create webpages that were interactive. It can attach to access and SQL Server databases and is very robust. It was only a matter of time before the big M would get .NET into the hands of the home hobbiest and small business owners.

To provide more options to our customers, we have installed Perl 5.0 and the latest version of Python on our servers. We have added Perl to our add-on choices at http://www.badgerwebhosting.com/addons.asp . We will let you know as soon as Python can be purchased through an update of this blog. Both languages are used throughout the internet and we hope this will add more choices of programming languages available to you as a developer.
